Note: this opportunity encourages applications from community college students.Description: Undergraduate students studying any major are welcome to contribute to our multidisciplinary team of researchers as we work to develop pennycress (Thlaspi arvense) as a cash cover crop. Pennycress has the potential to diversify farmers' economic opportunities while providing environmental benefits. Pennycress can reduce soil erosion and nutrient runoff, protect nearby water sources, suppress weeds, and support pollinator health and biodiversity.
Students who join our team will gain skills in:
-data collection, analysis, and visualization.
-collaboration, both within and between disciplines.
-communicating with scientists and non-scientists.
-writing for professional audiences.
-...and other skills specific to the discipline of choice, such as phenotyping, DNA extraction, PCR, gas chromatography, lipid extraction, and other lab techniques.
Compensation of $8,000 includes a stipend of $6,000 and $2,000 to assist with travel and housing expenses.
