Description: The Women's Alliance in STEM and Humanities Summer Research Institute (WASH SRI) is an annual, virtual research opportunity for students grades 6-12. We provide select students with direct access to workshops taught by experienced mentors, who simultaneously guide the students' research projects throughout the summer, culminating in a virtual showcase/science fair during the first week of August.
This summer, the WASH SRI is offering three possible tracks to student researchers:(1)microbiology/epidemiology (2)finance/cs, and (3)quantum physics. Students may indicate their two most preferred tracks on the application form. During the program, students can expect once a week workshops ranging from 2-3 hours, covering everything from the fundamentals to the latest applications of each technology. During the week, students will also be expected to complete checkpoints of their research project. At the end, mentors will grade each research project, and assist students with possible publication/continuation options.
INFO ABOUT WASH: We primarily focus on bridging the gap between the sciences and social sciences/DEI training through workshops, and STEM seminars. We have impacted approximately a 1000 students so far, and raised around 9k in supplies for children's education. A part of our effort is the DEAR FUTURE WASH series, where we interview women in STEM, policy, etc. Our mentor network includes students/faculty from Princeton University, UPENN, John Hopkins, NYU, USC, Cornell, and more!
