Students come to the University of Maryland for 10 weeks over the summer. They get $5000 and free room and some board. They work on projects with faculty in small groups.
The theme of REU-CAAR (Research Experience for Undergraduates: Combinatorics and Algorithms for Applied Research) is to take theoretical research and see how it can be made practical.
The projects this year are on:
