About us
The CCE is a Center for Chemical Innovation that brings together chemists of all stripes to answer key questions about the development of biochemistry. Namely: How could small molecules on the early-Earth give rise to the kinds of biopolymers we know today?
While the program is based at Georgia Tech, the Center boasts investigators from across the country. If there is an exceptional fit, students may be placed with one of those investigators at a satellite site.
Because of the Center's unique structure, participants are advised not just by their primary mentor and graduate student, but by an entire team of scientists working on projects like theirs. This gives our program the advantage of providing broader exposure to research than typical, single-investigator opportunities. Past summer researchers have cu-authored cover-articles for scientific journals-- most recently for ChemBioChem.
In addition to engaging in cutting edge chemistry research, participants engage regularly in professional development and social activities. They also have the chance to design and participate in science communication and outreach programs. The CCE is actively involved in arts-based outreach.
The program lasts ten weeks and participants receive housing, a travel allowance, and a minimum stipend of $5,000. Additionally, researchers may receive funding to present their summer research at a variety of professional conferences.
