About us
The Biology Mentorship Program (BMP) is a 6-week summer program that provides high school students the opportunity to develop areas of research interest within biology. We span areas of human, plant, molecular, and systems biology. This free virtual program is a valuable tool for aspiring biologists (like you!) to explore the world of biology with resources that are free and open-source, which we will help you to navigate. Students will be paired with an accomplished mentor to pursue an independent research project; students who need more flexibility or could not be matched with a mentor will be given full access to all program materials, including lectures and journal clubs.
The program is fully virtual and flexible. Students participating in BMP are expected to dedicate 10-20 hours per week to the program, but this requirement is flexible. In addition, students must be available for most of the virtual program dates spanning mid-June - beginning of August (we will update specific dates on our website). There are absolutely no other requirements.
We welcome international students and students who have never had exposure to scientific research in the past. We welcome students of high school education level or higher, including nontraditional paths (e.g. community college, no college, military service, re-entering education system). More details of our program are listed on our website.
