About us
The NSF Mathematical Sciences Graduate Internship program is aimed at students who are interested in understanding the application of advanced mathematical and statistical techniques to "real world" problems, regardless of whether you plan to pursue an academic or nonacademic career. Internship activities will vary based on the assigned research project and hosting facility. As part of your application, you will identify your top 3 research projects from the NSF MSGI Project Catalog. All research projects are in disciplinary areas of the mathematical sciences supported by the NSF Division of Mathematical Sciences.
Internship appointments are for 10 consecutive weeks on site at the assigned hosting facility between the months of May and September. Internships may result in a virtual placement depending on hosting facility preferences or regulations.
You will be located at a DOE or other federal national laboratory. Your exact location is dependent on the assigned project and hosting facility. For a list of hosting facilities, please visit our website.
Stipend: $1,200 per week during the 10-week internship period.
Inbound/Outbound Travel Reimbursement: May be eligible for reimbursement up to $2,000 if relocating within U.S. more than 50 miles from the hosting facility.
