Academic Level:
Graduate Students (Masters)
Graduate Students (PhD)

The primary goal of the NSF IGERT grant is to prepare the next generation of scientists, engineers, toxicologists, policy-makers, and business leaders to shape the country's green chemistry and clean energy economy. Using a Systems Approach to Green Energy (SAGE) the program will foster technology innovations in solar energy, biofuel, and energy storage systems using principles of green chemistry and engineering.

Students who are awarded this fellowship will get the opportunity to work with graduate students and professors from across campus who are interested in bringing about a more sustainable energy future.

SAGE IGERT Fellows will be recruited from UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, the College of Chemistry, the College of Natural Resources, College of Engineering, Goldman School of Public Policy and the Haas School of Business. IGERT candidates will participate in core interdisciplinary course work and research relating to green chemistry. They will also be advised by interdisciplinary dissertation committees.

In addition to recieving research funding, SAGE fellows will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our international partners, initiate new interdisciplinary research projects, and work with our off-campus partners.

Interested students will identify faculty support from at least two different departments.
