Description:
The Introductory College Level Experience in Microbiology is an eight-week paid summer internship program for high-potential, low income high school sophomores and juniors in Alameda, San Francisco, or Contra Costa county schools. Developed in partnership with UC Berkeley and the Joint BioEnergy Institute, the program seeks to broaden students' understanding of biotechnology and the careers available in this field. In addition to basic science and research, the program also exposes students to career exploration and preparation for the college application process, including field trips to local biotech companies, career talks with scientists and engineers, writing a college personal statement, meeting college admission and financial aid experts, and visiting college campuses.
