Academic Level:
Undergraduate Students
Graduate Students (PhD)

As a medical, dental, or veterinary student, you are in a unique position to advance biomedical research and translate findings from the lab into the treatment of disease. HHMI's Medical Fellows Program gives you a chance to focus on a research project full-time and determine how you can incorporate research into your professional career.

Spend a year—or a summer—conducting full-time basic, translational, or applied biomedical research.

The Year-Long Program gives you the flexibility to select your mentor and project from laboratories throughout the United States, including those of HHMI investigators and early career scientists, to conduct laboratory research on TB or HIV with selected investigators at KwaZulu-Natal Research Institute for Tuberculosis and HIV (K-RITH) in South Africa, or be matched with a mentor at HHMI's Janelia Farm Research Campus near Washington, D.C.

The Summer Program offers you exceptional research training in the laboratory of an HHMI investigator, early career scientist, or a Janelia scientist.

Before you finalize your plans for medical residency or postgraduate training, take some time to experience the excitement and intellectual rewards of biomedical research. Your experience could make an impact in medicine and your future career.
