Summer research opportunities for undergraduates

REU Program in Animal Behavior

Program Website this link takes you to a different website

Description: The REU program in Animal Behavior brings about 10 undergraduate students to Indiana University each summer to engage in animal behavior research. The program offers a unique opportunity for talented undergraduates to spend the summer doing state-of-the-art research and to gain valuable skills while exploring career opportunities in the sciences.

During the first two weeks, interns divide their time between group training activities and their home laboratory where they begin working out their research project. The group training activities include research seminar presentations, hands-on training in field and laboratory techniques (including a trip behind the scenes at the Indianapolis zoo) and a workshop in ethics. The remainder of the summer is focused on the conduct, analysis, and presentation of their research project. (see Research abstracts) Brief Workshops are also offered on taking the graduate record examinations, applying to graduate school, and designing a power point presentation.

Our program has been running since 1990 and is one of the most successful undergraduate summer research programs in the country.

With the help of the National Science Foundation, the Animal Behavior REU program provides each student with a stipend scheduled to be about $4000' for the 10-week program, a single occupancy room in an IU residence hall, a basic meal plan, and travel expenses.
