My general research interests are in college access and retention for underrepresented students, first generation college students, and parent-child relationships in higher education. I am currently taking a course in survey design where I am developing a survey that looks at dimensions of parent support for undergraduate students. This study merges education and psychology literature through the exploration of emotional, instrumental, and financial support of parents as well as companionship for their undergraduate students. Through the survey data, I would like to look at student's ratings of the dimensions in which they receive the most support from their parents. I would then like to look at the influence of these dimensions of support on students' academic and social self-esteem. I hope to administer the survey on a larger scale than the course requires within the next couple of years.
