Shawn Simmons

Dr. Simmons is currently a Regulatory/Environmental Advisor for ExxonMobil Development Company. Dr. Simmons is responsible for regulatory compliance and environmental management for two projects in West Africa. She also finds time to volunteer in the community. Dr. Simmons is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha and is a board member for several non-profit organizations. Dr. Simmons holds professional memberships with the National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers and Society of Women Engineers. Dr. Simmons has received the "Tomorrow’s Leader Today" Award, the YMCA Young African-American Achiever Award and was featured in Ebony magazine as one of the "30 Leaders of the Future".

Dr. Shawn Emerson Simmons is a 1989 graduate of Booker T. Washington’s High School for the Engineering Professions in Houston, Texas. In 1993, Simmons completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Simmons received many accolades during her undergraduate years including the Black Engineer of the Year – Student Leadership Award, Miss Black University of Oklahoma, and the Volunteer Spirit Award from General Motors Corporation. Dr. Simmons continued her professional development by attending Rice University where she received her Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. In May of 2003, Dr. Simmons completed a Ph.D. at Texas Southern University in the Environmental Toxicology Program. Her research interests include bacterial indicators and risk assessment of new remediation technologies."
