Shannon Seneca

Ecosystem Restoration through Interdisciplinary Exhange (ERIE) IGERT
State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo


Shannon Seneca is currently an ERIE IGERT Ph.D. candidate in the University at Buffalo’s Department of Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering. After a B.S. in Physics from SUNY Buffalo State, Shannon received her Master of Science in Civil (Environmental) Engineering from UB with her thesis research focusing on the treatment of drinking water using ultraviolet (UV) light and the use of a photochromic particle actinometer to study UV reactors. Her current research focus is in groundwater geochemistry, looking at methods for the removal of strontium-90 from groundwater. As a recipient of an ERIE IGERT traineeship, Ms. Seneca remains interested in working on the prevention of contaminated water migrating into stream systems.
