Nirmala Ravishankar

Nirmala Ravishankar grew up in New Delhi, India. She received a B.A. in History and Philosophy from Brandeis University in 1999 and a M.Sc. in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2000. Before joining the Government Department at Harvard University in 2002, she worked in Washington, D.C. at the Investor Responsibility Research Center and at the Urban Institute on the Assessing the New Federalism project. Her research interests extend across the fields of comparative politics, political methodology and social policy. Her most recent research has focused on the study of regional inequality and redistribution in countries with federal and decentralized governments. Additionally, she is working with Professor Gary King on mortality forecasting and with Professor Torben Iversen on the division of household labour. Outside of school, her current hobbies include running, planning trips to distant lands, and wine tasting.
