Candice Griffith
Reliability and Risk Engineering, Analysis, and ManagementVanderbilt University
Nashville, TNCandice Griffith is a PhD candidate at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She is an IGERT student in Vanderbilt’s Reliability and Risk Engineering and Management program. She previously received a Master’s Degree (1998) in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelors’ of Engineering (1996) in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University. She is working with Dr. Sankaran Mahadevan in the area Human Reliability Analysis, with a focus on the effect of cognitive fatigue on human performance. The title of her dissertation is “Inclusion of Fatigue Effects in Human Reliability Analysis”. As part of her dissertation research, Candice has worked on summer internships and projects for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and NASA. The goal of her research is to develop a technical basis for the inclusion of fatigue effects on human performance. She plans to accomplish this through statistical meta-analysis of studies from multiple disciplines (e.g. psychology, medicine, military, aviation, ground transportation, nuclear power plants, and chemical plants) on cognitive fatigue that report a performance effect. Her doctoral study is partly supported by fellowships from the Idaho National Laboratory and NASA.
