My current research examines the causes, consequences, and mediators of family structure effects on children. I am particularly interested in the underlying psychological and social mechanisms through which family structure affects child wellbeing, and whether parents' relationship quality, the strength of parent-child ties, and social support both inside and outside the household may explain or mediate these effects. I am also interested in the long-term impact of family structure differences on inequality and in changes in the conceptualization and measurement of family in light of recent demographic trends.
