Cambridge, MACybelle received her BA in History and Economics from UC San Diego in 1997. She worked as a research associate for the Institute for Children and Poverty and for the Urban Justice Center-Human Rights Project, both in New York City, before beginning the Ph.D. program in Sociology and Social Policy at Harvard in 2000. Cybelle's primary research interests center on the confluence of race, immigration and the politics of redistribution. Her qualifying paper (forthcoming in American Journal of Sociology) examines how Whites' stereotypes of Latinos are related to their welfare spending preferences. Cybelle is also co-author of Rampage (Basic Books, 2004), with Katherine Newman, David Harding, Jal Mehta and Wendy Roth, which investigates the social roots of the rampage school shootings at Westside Middle School in Jonesboro, Arkansas and Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky.
